Honouring John Bowditch

John Bowditch was a proud and passionate contributor to NSW Country Basketball. Over decades, he wore many hats – player, referee, coach, and tireless organiser – always giving his time to help the game and its people grow. He travelled extensively on Country Basketball tours, represented at Nationals, and built lifelong friendships through the sport he loved. Alongside his wife Maureen, John helped run The Entrance Lakers, creating opportunities for players of all ages. His dedication to the game was recognised with the Australian Sports Medal in 2000, but his true legacy is the countless lives he touched in basketball communities across the country. To honour John’s life and his commitment to supporting others, his family invites donations to The Scott Balsar S.WISH Foundation, helping young people chase their dreams – just as John always encouraged.
